I’m typing these words with steady fingers — something so simple, yet for the past seven years, it felt like an impossible dream.
It all started in the winter of 2016. I was 28, and it was like my life split in two. First, my right index finger would stiffen up in the morning, like a frozen twig. I’d have to soak it in warm water for half an hour just to bend it. I thought it was just exhaustion — until my knees started waking me up at night with sharp, deep pain. The day I was diagnosed, the rheumatologist looked at my bloodwork and said, almost too calmly, “Rheumatoid arthritis. Your CCP antibodies are very high.”

My rheumatoid factor is normal. That factor isn’t the only diagnostic criteria for RA – check anti-CCP. Get treated early, see a rheumatologist. Delay can cause irreversible damage. Anyway, I’m better now, no pain. Thanks to TYIAI for the invaluable advice.

So scary to see. I just tested positive for the factor, other results normal. But right-hand morning stiffness daily. Doc won’t diagnose, says “wait and see”, yet my right middle finger is already swollen. Is there a long pre-onset phase for RA? Freaking out. Can’t believe this actually worked here.
